SKIPPAGE
Conveying
Professional skippers, we take care of your boat for transport by cargo, by ferry by sea or as an accompaniment to your crew or yourself.
All experienced and graduates PPV, Captain 200 or YachtMaster RYA, we also have RC Pro Skipper insurance.
With extensive experience in offshore and coastal sailing in skippage and conveyance, we have been developing this experience for more than 25 years, especially on the most varied multihulls (Privilege 58, Catana, Lagoon 52F, Sunreef 50, Privilege Series 5, Leopard, …)
We particularly like more demanding navigation on certain trimarans: Dragonfly 1000, Dragonfly 1200, Neel 51 for their marine qualities and technical characteristics.
Skippage versus Convoyage
2 terms for 2 different trades although the required diplomas are often the same. These trades and functions of skipper and captain require human and technical qualities necessarily different.
Skippage
Partner of your trip, the skipper is the “organizer” and the “master of the ship”, guaranteeing above all your safety and the integrity of the boat. He is the ship’s manager and H24 manager of the boat you are on, whether you are a landlord or occasional tenant.
In charge of the technical management of the boat, the skipper is also the guarantor and the “manager”. Drawing on his knowledge of local features such as the most beautiful coves and good restaurants and listening to your desires to sail, he will subtly juggle the environment (weather, program, …) as much as the interests and desires of each to make you the most wonderful cruise possible.
Full of benevolence, he is a chameleon whose company and exchanges you will appreciate but also and above all his ability to disappear and fade so that you feel on board your boat “at home”.
Available, it will land you in an appendix on a small discreet beach or will reserve, for you, one of its favorite tables …
A teacher, he will take the time to wake you up to sailing, sailors or diving, wakes, etc.
Conveying
Starting from a departure port to a final destination, the purpose of the ferry is to take your boat by the most direct route. It is not a question of heavenly stopovers or lazing around, but of making the journey in the best possible time and conditions. With exceptions, the owner of the boat is not on board and delegates this route to an experienced crew whose skipper is the captain. Depending on the complexity of the boat and the duration of the navigation, this crew may consist of a skipper and several crew members.
Sailing several days in a row at a rapidly demanding watch pace depending on the conditions and areas of navigation encountered, endurance and a strong marine sense are required. The skipper then becomes a true leader, responsible for the boat and the good management of his crew.
Its technical experience allows to overcome the most common navigational hazards of the ship and to take care of any type of boat. Its objective: to bring your boat and its crew in the best weather conditions and in the interest of their integrity.
Choose your skipper well
Whether it is the time of a weekend or the year, the choice of skipper or captain is essential because it is above all a question of human relations, understanding (and complicity in some cases), trust and mutual respect.
A punctual tenant, you will hand over to your skipper some of the keys to the success of your holiday or your weekend, your cruise.
Owner, you entrust to your skipper the result of a thoughtful investment, often the fruit of your success and your work. He then becomes your right-hand man in the management of your boat. Nevertheless, he was captain and captain, and he bears full responsibility for the smooth operation of the vessel, its integrity and the safety of all persons on board, passengers and crew alike). He must therefore know how to handle both rigor and flexibility in a great balancing act…
Our advice: For 2 days as well as in the long term, discuss, exchange with your skipper in full transparency about what you want, your interests, your brakes, your desires and your vision of the project…
Our Skipper fares
Our skippers are independent players, chosen, beyond their proven technical skills, for their human and relational qualities, their emotional intelligence…
For occasional skip-and-carrying contracts (less than 2 weeks), the rate for making a YPM skipper available is 300 Euros per day.
For long-term contracts, the cost of a skipper will depend on the size of the ship, the pace of rotations, the crew role, the flag, … It can range from 5,000 to 12,000 Euros per month.
Alternative to skipper: cargo transport
For some journeys that require regularity or speed, avoiding an exhausting return deckchair for equipment and crew, transporting your boat by cargo ship can be a good option.
We work with a selection of companies specializing in this type of cargo transport and will be your intermediary for the organization and preparation of your boat.
We prepare your boat before it is loaded for this transport. Specific storage, out-of-water and technical preparation of your boat are required.
We can assist you or bring your boat ourselves when on the side of the cargo ship, assist the LoadMasters in the preparations for grutting, check the integrity of the boat once stalled, … We are also present at the unloading and release of your boat for the technical re-start and maneuvering, customs and administrative formalities.
